What this foot does

A gathering foot gathers fabric as you sew, so you can make ruffles and soft gathers without pulling basting threads by hand. It can also gather one layer and stitch it to a flat layer in the same pass, which is useful for skirts, sleeves and curtain trims. It works best on light and medium-weight fabrics; a longer stitch length gives fuller gathers.
